Temperatures are rising and the beaches are filling up nicely. The beach bars and restaurants are in full swing as it’s ideal weather for some lunchtime al fresco dining. Just the thought of the beach can conjure up sights and smells that make living or visiting this part of the world so appealing. It’s no wonder that Malaga airport has just released figures reporting a 7.3% increase in visitor numbers for the first 4 months this year compared to last year. There were 5.2m visitors in total. British arrivals were up 3.4% which showed that Brexit did nothing to stop those wanting some winter sun and a bit of R&R.
Back to our beach theme and La Cala de Mijas offered a weekend spectacle for visitors to the area recently. It brought the beach to the town by hosting a sardine festival in the main car park with a competition taking place to find the best sardine chef in Andalucia.
Cooking sardines on the open wood fire isn’t as easy as it looks. You can’t under cook or over cook and the fish on the sticks need to be placed in the right spot on the fire to get the desired results. €1,000 was being offered to the winner so amateurs needn’t not have applied!!
